Playtech is celebrating a strong showing at the upcoming SBC Awards 2025, having been shortlisted in several high-profile categories. The company has received nominations for Casino/Slot Developer of the Year, Sportsbook Supplier of the Year, Platform Provider of the Year, Live Casino Supplier, and Land-Based Betting & Gaming Product of the Year.

Now in its twelfth year, the SBC Awards have grown into a key fixture in the global betting and gaming industry calendar. This year’s event will take place on Thursday, 18 September, at Lisbon’s MEO Arena, coinciding with the final day of the SBC Summit 2025.

The 2025 edition has broken previous participation records, attracting more submissions than ever before across 37 award categories. These span a broad spectrum of industry segments, from payment services to marketing excellence, operational innovation, and technology advancements.

Industry leaders Pragmatic Play and Sportradar are in the spotlight with seven nominations each, while other companies making multiple appearances on the shortlist include Bragg Gaming, Novibet, Top Bet, and Playtech itself.

In the Live Casino Supplier category, Playtech is listed alongside notable competitors such as ICONIC21, Ezugi, SA Gaming, Winfinity Limited, Amber Studios, and Vivo Gaming.

Adding to the evening’s appeal, legendary goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel will return as co-host. The former Manchester United star and UEFA European Championship winner is expected to bring his trademark energy to the ceremony, continuing the lively hosting style he showcased last year.

Transitioning to a Leaner B2B Model

The accolades arrive during a period of major transformation for Playtech. In its recent trading update ahead of September’s official results, the company forecast an adjusted EBITDA of at least €90 million for the first half of 2025. This figure is down from €243 million during the same period last year but reflects the impact of its deliberate move to a B2B-only structure.

The forecast includes losses tied to its now-divested HappyBet brand but excludes earnings from Snaitech, which was sold earlier in the year. Despite the decline, Playtech reports stronger-than-expected returns from its associate operations—most notably from its partnership with Caliente Interactive in Mexico.

Major Divestments to Strengthen Focus

Playtech’s shift away from consumer-facing operations began with the €2.3 billion sale of Snaitech to Flutter Entertainment, completed in April 2025. Snaitech had been one of the company’s largest revenue drivers and the cornerstone of its B2C business.

The transformation continued with the sale of HappyBet to NetX Betting, a subsidiary of Pferdewetten AG, finalized on 28 May. This marked Playtech’s complete exit from the B2C market just two months after initiating the sales process.

With no remaining direct-to-consumer operations, the company is now concentrating exclusively on delivering platforms, technology solutions, and content for business partners. This realignment is intended to strengthen its technology integration capabilities, deepen client relationships, and open greater cross-selling opportunities across its B2B portfolio.
